What a beautiful location! I haven't ventured into the
Durbanville Wine Route lately, especially not up into the hills to see these views. Wine Magazine commissioned
Bakkes Images to photograph the estate and tasting room at
Hillcrest for their next issue. The estate has fantastic slopes that made for great photographic results with views of
Robben Island, Table Mountain, Big Bay, West Coast all the way to
Stellenbosch mountains on the other side.
As Hillcrest Winemaker, Graeme Reed, explained to me 350m above sea level, the slopes and resulting temperature differences is ideal for his vines and fruit, and certainly attributes to the success of his wines. The estate is small compared to the surrounding wineries but is proudly a wine estate, thus not buying in grapes, and its size gives it a fantastically welcoming and personal touch.
