Pic of the Week: Fashion meets Wine at Boschendal

The contribution of stylists and art directors on set is always invaluable. This shot, produced for the new book Celebrating Methode Cap Classique (Di Burger/Stacked Publications) at Boschendal Estate, was set to create a fusion of fashion and wine and the results were beautiful. Creative Director Anya Kovacs was the mastermind behind the shots of the day and Bakkes Images were left to image capturing and light shaping as we do best.

Tech talk: On this particular shot we used studio lighting to change the direction of the sun, that was in fact above and behind the model. The morning light played beautifully with the tree canopies, illuminating the leaves to give them a vivid glow and fill up the top part of the shot. Needless to say that the studio lights filled the foreground and the model that would otherwise have been underexposed. Two lights were place to the left of the shot, a soft box was used to illuminate the model's upper body and face and a white brolly was place behind the soft box to overlight the entire scene and provide light on the foreground and dress. Lastly the right of the frame was filled in with a gold reflector. This resulted in the interesting light play on the dress, giving it depth, well filled-in shadows on the subject and scene, with a beautiful and soft rim light on the face of the model effectively removing her from the background.
