The Pic of the Week comes from the Bakkes Images Surfing Archives. Shot at sunrise at the 1st Bayview Bodyboarding Invitational in 2004, the clouds broke for a moment before the contestants made their way to the backline to compete for the title. The swells were big on the day with wave faces up to 16 feet. Some riders got into serious trouble on the day and, as the swell continued to increase, the NSRI Sea Rescue had to come to the aid during the final heat of the event as the contestant could not get back on land in the huge surf. Luckily there were no casualties.
