Riehan Bakkes on Harvest 2013

The 2013 harvest is in full swing and that means that the Bakkes Images season is roaring as usual. Relating to our wine clients, there is also very little time for sleep at this time with harvest and vineyard landscape shoots starting at the crack of dawn and ending long after sunset and photo-editing through the night. But that we love and is the reason why we do what we do and how we create the beautiful photographs we are so well known for.

There are a couple of memorable shoots thus far in 2013. The Graham Beck Robertson shoot was, as before, fantastic. I personally love the area and landscapes in contrast to Stellenbosch. Peter "Bubbles" Farreira and Pierre de Klerk is an awesome team with a very healthy balance between hard work, professionalism and an appreciation for fun and laughter. I am very pleased with the portraits taken of the team. They had no time to pretty up. They were in the middle of harvest, dirty and loving every moment of it.

Then Oldenburg Vineyards in Stellenbosch amazed me once again in its absolute splendor. A spectacular piece of earth nearer to heaven. Working closely with the prestigious Anthony Lane Bakkes Images set out to create farm images with both commercial application as well as artistic angle for quality large format prints. The range of photographs covered beautiful sunrise landscapes with majestic mountain surrounds, fine detail in the vines, natural fauna & flora. The results from the shoot were well received by the designers and client and therefore a victorious production for Bakkes Images.

Longridge under the Helderberg followed shortly after and resulted in all-time favourite photographs for me. The cloudy skies gave me the opportunity to create dramatic sunrise shots with streaking light rays breaking through the dark clouds and perfectly lighting the vineyards. Longridge was also in full harvest so the team portrait session in the cellar offered all a refreshing break from the usual work.

These shoots were great and the people involved at the estates were very accommodating and friendly. Thanks again to all at Graham Beck, Oldenburg and Longridge for your hospitality.

For the rest we are finishing up on the photography for the newest book due to be released mid 2013. Following the successful Celebrating Methode Cap Classique book by Di Burger at Stacked Publications, the next project is Celebrating Chocolates in South Africa! A lot of food photography went down in the last couple of months with some high profile chefs, restaurants and chocolate producers in SA. We will keep all informed as to release dates once finalised.

Any other times the Bakkes Images studio is working full time on product shots, cataloging, photo editing and after-sales servicing of our clients. Staff Photographer Jaenne Mare van Papendorp's Mac is running at full speed making sure our clients are taken care of as best as possible. Make sure to call us to book your slots for high-end shoots.

Well, that's that from me for now. Off to the next shoot. Thanks for reading and shoot you soon.
