Pic of the Week - 9 January 2012

Jason's Hill Private Cellar is nestled in the Slanghoek Valley of Rawsonville. The location of the estate is one to marvel at and I always find it breathtaking when I am asked to shoot photos there. Owner Ivy du Toit expanded the cellar capacity and changed the building and then, as usual, asked Bakkes Images to document the changes and the richness of the vineyards at this time of year.

The weather, however, was a bit of an issue. December in the Western Cape has long last seen so much rain and we could not find a sunny opening to shoot. So, I was reminded to take the risk and venture out into their vineyards on a grey and rainy morning and found exactly what I was looking for.

I enjoy bad weather photography. In the greys there is always hiding a range of subtle colours as seen in the Jason's Hill photos. Light rays shining through a break in the clouds, a rainbow surprise in contrast with the lush and saturated December vines all came together to deliver spectacular results. Thanks to Ivy for letting me take the chance in the rain.
